This can be a touchy subject with some. Some dogs simply do not like being groomed and can seriously injure their groomer. When you have a dog that is this problematic, you must be considerate to the groomer. We need our fingers to make a living.
There are times that some dogs may need to be tranquilized from their vet. This is not fun for the dog or the groomer. Just because the dog has been given drugs by the vet it doesn’t mean it will be easy at all. Most tranquilizers the vets give will slow the dog down but not knock them out. In this case, the groomer still may have an aggressive dog but with a slower reaction. Also, the groomer will have to watch the dog very closely because the dog can have a seizure or worse. It still shocks me when people ask “Do you tranquilize dogs?” NO! It is scary when a dog comes in from the vet in this condition. With the knowledge I am giving you on this subject you must understand there is usually a premium price to pay. If you are lucky enough to find someone willing to work on a dog this aggressive you must expect this. Usually you will need someone with many years of experience. That alone is hard enough to find. Many groomers get burnt out after about 5 years. This was recently the subject in my shop. I was amazed after pleading with me to please groom the dog that the price, which I and my employees felt was very fair became an issue. Who would pay the medical bills if I were injured? Would she like that bill also?
Keep in mind that grooming dogs is a serious job and sometimes requires a serious price tag.
